These loam based composts contain sphagnum moss peat, free draining washed and salt free grit, balanced nutrients & lime as well as structured sterilized loam. They are tailored to meets the individual requirements of a wide range of greenhouse, garden and indoor plants.
Where Does The Name John Innes Come From?
John Innes was a very successful nineteenth century property and land dealer, who was one of the founders of the City of London Real Property Company. Upon his death in 1904 he bequeathed his estate to be used for the promotion of horticultural instruction, experimentation and research. The result was the establishment of the John Innes Horticultural Institution in Merton, Surrey. It was here in the 1930's that two scientists William Lawrence and John Newell, set out to formulate composts that would give consistently good and reliable results. Lawrence and Newell's research particularly took into account the need to alter the nutritional status of the compost according to the plant's growth stage. This led to the introduction of the two standard composts, one for seed sowing and one for potting, which revolutionised the growing of pot plants. The numbers 1, 2 and 3 applied to the potting compost indicate increasing levels of fertilizers to suit more mature plants. After being used very widely for over 50 years the basic formulae remain the same - tried and tested, and still incredibly popular for growing quality plants with the minimum of attention.

This item will be delivered to the kerbside by a vehicle with a hydraulic tail lift and manual pallet truck.
The positioning of your goods is at the discretion of the driver. The unloading surface must be smooth and level i.e not sloped, gravel or grass. If a delivery cannot be made we will have to make an “Abandoned Delivery Charge” to cover the high costs of returning the goods back to us.

Deliveries by crane vehicles take up to 10 working days, there is no extra charge for this service.
